Description: The City of Rochester sold its 7000 acres of watershed lands around Hemlock and Canadice Lakes to NY State. These are the only two undeveloped Finger Lakes and they were carefully protected by the City for decades. The DEC is now developing a unit management plan for this new Hemlock-Canadice State Forest and are accepting comments anytime during this long process. Comments can be general or specific and can concern timber and wildlife management, public access, recreation, gas leasing or any other possible uses. Electronic copies of the recently released Draft Strategic Plan for the management of ALL state forests which will be used as the basis for unit management plans are available online at www.dec.ny.gov/lands/64567.html.
